Proper Shutdown Methods – Learn how to properly shutdown your system.
It is very important that you ALWAYS use the available shutdown options on your Raspberry Pi. Whether you’re using RetroPie, Kodi, or PixelOS there is a proper way to power down your system. Simply pushing the power button and abruptly cutting the power can cause your system to become corrupted and it will stop working.
Please read the entire guide for information on how to shutdown your system.
RETROPIE SHUTDOWN
press START on your controller
select QUIT
select SHUTDOWN SYSTEM
KODI SHUTDOWN
select the shut down button from the top left corner
select SHUTDOWN
PIXEL OS SHUTDOWN

Regardless of where you chose to shutdown, your system will now shut down in the safe and proper way. Give it a little time to run through the shutdown process. You’ll usually be able to tell it’s done when your TV loses the signal from the Pi. Also you can peak inside the case and when you see that the green light is no longer lit or blinking, that usually means it’s done shutting down. You can now press the power button to completely cut the power to the system.
As always, it is HIGHLY recommended you make a backup of your microSD card. CLICK HERE for our guide on how to do that.
